Media and Communications Intern

• Location: Phnom Penh

• Schedule: Six months (Full-time)

Background

WaterAid Cambodia was established in 2014 and has an ambitious plan to work with a range of stakeholders to support the sector aim of reaching universal access to sanitation and water in Cambodia by 2025. WaterAid Cambodia’s program is based on influencing and make change happen by supporting the government to strengthen system that lead to sustainable service, inspiring the next generation of WASH leaders by building human resources, especially women and promoting collective action and building bridges between sectors by using innovation and adaptive approach.

Expectations

One of the WaterAid strategic approaches, to support Cambodia reaching universal access to sanitation and water by 2025, is media engagement in promoting quality storytelling about water, sanitation and hygiene.

Therefore, the Media and Communications Intern will work closely and collaboratively with the WaterAid Communications team to support the implementation of planned communications and media activities. The intern will support the WASH Journalists Network to deliver its action plan and strategy, and support communications team to produce communications materials including IEC and digital production.

This internship will provide learning opportunities for the successful candidate to develop skills and knowledge in media and journalism in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector in Cambodia. The intern will also have opportunity to make connections with wide range of stakeholders in WASH sector.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Digital and Media officer to implement media engagement project.
  • Support and coordinate with leadership team of WASH Journalists Network to:
  • implement action plan of the network
  • develop content, manage and monitor Facebook page of the Network
  • coordinate communications and information sharing with other members of the network
  • organize training, learning, and reflection sessions with members of the Network
  • improve branding and networking of the Network
  • Support in digital media and communication materials production including developing story concept and storyline, video editing, and designing communication materials.
  • Complete a short summary of his/her personal development during the internship
  • Travel to field if required

Requirement

  • Qualifications
    – Current student or recently graduated majoring in media, journalism, communications, public relations, or other relevant disciplines.
  • Experience
    – Team work
    – Timely communication
    – Volunteering experiences
    – Experience working in media or journalism area is preferred
  • Knowledge and skills
    – Interest in water, sanitation and hygiene work
    – Good command of Khmer Language (verbal and written)
    – Computer literacy (word, excel, PowerPoint and social media, google product…)
    – Communication skills including team work, group discussion and conflict management
    – Written and spoken English
    – Knowledge in designing and video editing is a plus
    – Knowledge in digital journalism and digital storytelling
  • Personal qualities
    – Willingness to learn and ability to think creatively
    – Well organized and delivers products on time.
    – Able to work independently
    – Attention to detail
    – Willingness to travel to remote and rural communities
    – Commitment to Child Safeguarding and to WaterAid’s values
