WASH and Health Program Intern with WaterAid

About the position

  • Title: WASH and Health Program Intern (1 person)
  • Benefit: Allowance ($US150.00 and plus health and personal accident insurance cover)
  • Location: Phnom Penh, Cambodia
  • Duration: Six months (Full time or Part time) – with possible extension to one year
  • Expected start date: 4th Week of November

Background

WaterAid Cambodia was established in 2014 and has ambitious plan to work with a range of stakeholders to support the sector aim of reaching universal access to sanitation and water in Cambodia by 2025. WaterAid Cambodia’s program is based on influencing and make change happen by supporting the government to strengthen system that lead to sustainable service, inspiring the next generation of WASH leaders by building human resources, especially women and promote collective action and building bridges between sectors by using innovation and adaptive approach.

WaterAid is implementing WASH and Health program with general mission of supporting the government to improve quality of care in health care facilities through a people-centered care approached.

As part of WASH and Health program, the Water and Sanitation for Health Facilities Improvement Tool and user-friendly WASH facilities tool are implementing in Kompong Chhnang to align with national quality improvement program. This project is working closely with provincial health department and operation districts staff to build more capacity in infection prevention control and WASH through the routine national quality improvement program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To support WASH and Health team for rolling out WASH improvement plan at health centers setting including coordination with operational district quality assessors.
  • To work with WnH team to improve WASH practices at health care facilities base on national guidelines.
  • To support WASH and Health team to implement accessible WASH in hospital setting which will be more activities engage with people with disability organizations.
  • Take a role as documentation for program team such as support in producing case study, photo story, short video that can internal and external use. This work will receive the guidance from Learning Effectiveness and Communication team in order to follow WaterAid communication guideline

Key accountabilities:

  • Document the learning related to WASH and health program and other programs
  • Produce case studies, photo stories and video for WASH and Health program.

Requirements

Qualification: Student or recently graduated student in public health, social work, community development.

Experiences: Not required.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong communications skills in Khmer and English (both written and verbal)
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Strong knowledge of volunteer and/or social work

Personal Qualities:

  • Willingness to learn and ability to think creatively and out of the box.
  • Eyes on detail
  • A strong commitment to gender sensitive, inclusive and pro-poor development work
  • Commitment to Child Safeguarding and to WaterAid’s values
  • Willingness to work within an organisational framework in the spirit of mutual trust and respect
  • Ability to travel regularly in Cambodia
